During the press conference before the second 2014 World Cup qualifier in Minsk, Vicente Del Bosque revealed that Andrés Iniesta will not form part of the starting eleven for the game against Belarus, with the manager preferring to save the Barça midfielder for the next game on Tuesday against France.
"We were thinking about the France game and Andrés' situation is a special case. I'm sure he could play both games, but we're going to be a little cautious with him because he's coming back from a muscle injury," stated the manager.
"We have players in the squad who can stand in for him perfectly well," argued Del Bosque. "The change is not a whim. We understand that it would be best for him not to play any of the 180 minutes, but he will play in both games whether things are going well or not. It's a special case," he added.
The muscle injury which Del Bosque was referring to has left Iniesta out injured for several days recently and occurred during another Brazil World Cup qualifier, when Spain played against Georgia. Del Bosque therefore prefers to limit his game time now.
