The Camp Nou was in a celebratory mood prior to the start of the league match against Celta de Vigo, with the main attractions being Xavi and Leo Messi.
The Argentinian, who became a dad for the first time on Friday, was given an ovation by the fans when he showed off the Golden Boot he won by scoring 50 goals last season.
Xavi was also greeted with applause on account of receiving the Prince of Asturias Award for Sports, which he won together with the captain of Real Madrid, Iker Casillas, in recognition of their successes with their respective clubs and the Spanish national squad, as well as for showing great team spirit.
Both players posed together showing off their awards for the cameras, while the fans in the stadium applauded them, as did the rest of the players that were on the pitch.
Earlier on, a delegation of Spanish Paralympic medal winners had also been in the stadium in recognition of their achievements in the London Games.
