The appointment of Rafael Benitez as interim manager at
Chelsea has led to an increase in speculation that Pep Guardiola will take over
next summer.
Benitez has been appointed until the end of the season following the
dismissal on Wednesday morning of Roberto di Matteo.Guardiola is refusing to make a decision about his future until the New Year, and the short-term nature of Benitez's contract has sparked reports that the former Barcelona boss could be heading for Chelsea next summer.
The Spaniard's agent insists his client has no intention of even talking to potential suitors until January at the earliest, amid talk he has admirers in England.
Guardiola is currently on a sabbatical in New York and has no intention of cutting short his break from the game, with his agent Josep Maria Orobitg insistent the world's most eligible coach is no rush to get himself sorted with a new club.
"Pep Guardiola will not decide anything before January," he told Brazilian website Lancenet, prior to Benitez's appointment.
"I was with him in New York a fortnight ago and he told me that until January or February he will not decide if he is going to go back to coaching and which team he will choose.
"It does not matter what happens [in the meantime], before that period he will not make any decision about any club or national team. Pep will make the decision himself, he has the personality to do that.
"He is with his family right now, resting, reading, enjoying his hobbies, watching football and in January he will start to think about what team he could be at next season."
