Valencia, having previously qualified thanks to Lille's victory at the home of BATE Borisov, was on the verge of securing the top position in its group. Despite playing with ten men following Barragán's sending off, it led with a goal from Feghouli, assisted by Dante, in the 77th minute. Müller, however, made it a draw shortly afterwards.
Howard Webb sent Barragán off in the 33rd minute after a hard tackle on Alaba. The Valencian side played from then on with reduced numbers although it pushed forward throughout the game.
Valencia had a clear goal opportunity in the 62nd minute. A through ball by Tino Costa gave Soldado the advantage over Neuer but the shot from the Valencia forward went high.
In the 77th minute, the firecrackers went off for Valencia. Feghouli made a great individual play, dribbling past two of the opposition into the centre and made a left-footed shot, the ball glanced Dante's hand, got past Neuer, and found the back of the net.
Bayern's response was immediate and five minutes later Thomas Müller scored the draw from a cross by Lahm from the right wing. The Germans, however, put on a very poor show, made worse by the fact that they played most of the game one man up.
