Drogba close to Chelsea return

Didier Drogba, one of the most emblematic players of the Premier League in the last decade, could return to English football on loan during the Chinese league break, according to the British press.
On the day that Chelsea first team manager Roberto Di Matteo was sacked after defeat in Turin, leaving the London club on the verge of elimination from the Champions League, FIFA confirmed that the former 'Blues' striker – currently at Shanghai Shenhua – requested authorisation to play on loan at another club during the break in Chinese football.
The 34-year-old Ivorian – who inspired Chelsea to Champions League victory last season – could return to London for a short period to help Roman Abramovich's club get through what could be described as a sticky moment.
In the game against Juventus, Chelsea's striker, Spaniard Fernando Torres - whose goal drought continues – was left on the bench and was unable to make an impact when he was brought on. A few hours after the game, the governing body of football confirmed that Drogba "has asked for permission to register as a loan player at a club outside the transfer window period."
