Vilanova takes rap for Alexis rut

"Alexis has done what has been asked of him"

One of the most debated topics currently among the Barcelona faithful is the matter of Alexis Sánchez's dip in form, which has seen the forward score just one goal from all the games he has played so far this campaign. The Chilean's one and only goal came on 2nd October in the Champions League group stage match against Benfica.
The striker's poor goal-scoring record has led to criticism of the player and cries for David Villa – who has a much more impressive goal ratio - to replace him in the first team. Villa has netted five times in considerably less time in action compared to his fellow attacker.
Barça manager Tito Vilanova - who remains as confident as ever in his striker - sent a
message of support to Alexis. Vilanova said the player needs to regain confidence and become the player who tore defences apart once again.
"I'm satisfied with his performance. I don't think he's lacking confidence, but a goal would be nice for him. If he scores, people will lay off him and he'll be more relaxed. I'm happy with how he has played because he has done what has been asked of him. It's my fault if we don't get the best out of him", the coach said, clearly with the aim of taking some of the pressure off the player.
