Real Madrid practically guaranteed its place in the last-eight of the Copa del Rey after a convincing victory over Alcoyano. José Mourinho’s side began its domestic cup campaign in commanding fashion, taking a huge step towards progressing to the next phase. Karim Benzema opened the scoring and Kaká showed he is back on track to recovering his form by scoring the second before the break.
The rejuvenated Brazilian’s performance was the highlight for Real, as well as superb displays by the young players in the team who had been given the chance by Mourinho. Nacho Fernández, Álex Fernández and Álvaro Morata started for the away side and José Rodríguez came on in the second half to score Real’s third goal with a neat finish.
Alcoyano was awarded for its persistence and reduced the deficit when Javi Lara curled in a superb free kick from out wide. The goal was a wake-up call for Real Madrid in what was a relatively easy game. Benzema was on hand once again to make it 4-1 and kill the game off.
