Pogba, surprised but not really, "Good start but I can do better"

Juve's 19-year-old midfielder spoke to L'Equipe: "I didn't expect to start so well but I must keep improving and earn the right to perform on bigger stages. France? I didn't think I would be in Deschamps' plans this soon. My punishment for being late? A good lesson"

He could hardly have imagined a more blistering start himself. And he's not exactly short of ambition. Ambition which includes grabbing the headlines. Speaking in an interview with l'Equipe at the France Under-20 camp, Paul Pogba admitted his surprise at having begun life with Juventus in Serie A so well.
LESSON — He starts by reflecting on the punishment he received for turning up late to training: "It was a misunderstanding but the coach took the decision he did and I think it's right. It was a good lesson." It doesn't stop Pogba from revelling in his early-season form: "Everything's gone really well so far, I've started games, I've scored goals, but I can't rest on my laurels. A career is more than a couple of games. I couldn't have imagined such a start, or maybe I did imagine it but it still takes you by surprise when it actually happens. But this is what I came to Juventus for after all."
SUCCESS — Pogba has come in for more media attention at Juve than he unexpected: "It's nice to get the headlines but you mustn't get carried away. I hope to make lots more headlines, maybe after winning Serie A or the Champions League." The 19-year-old also spoke about the senior national side coached by Deschamps: "I'm not thinking about that yet. Deschamps is right, I have to go through certain stages first. But I'm playing for a great club where I can only get better. Then we'll see. In any case I was surprised to hear people talking about me getting called up to the France squad. I didn't think it could happen so quickly but it's all extra incentive for me. Who wouldn't be pleased to hear Deschamps talking about them as the future of Les Bleus? It's a challenge but there's plenty of time. And if I don't make it, it will only be my fault."
