Málaga came away with a point from its historic visit to San Siro (1-1) and secured its mathematical passing into the last sixteen of the Champions League in a game in which Isco shone; the young jewel in Manuel Pellegrini's crown, who has now made a name for himself throughout Europe.
Malaga had more possession in the midfield, supported by an excellent Isco. The Spanish team's young player soon made his mark in San Siro, a great setting to continue to build his profile in the 'Old World' and put his team ahead.
The number '22' player created the space and assisted Eliseu with a natural ability worthy of the greats. The Malaga player presented his teammate with a perfect opportunity, which got past Abiatti with a one-touch shot with the inside of his foot, making it 0-1 five minutes before half time.
Once play resumed, the game looked bleaker for the Malaga side, more intent on maintaining the minimal difference than looking for a second goal. Its privileged position in Group C gave it licence to think of the League and not take risks. Milan, however, was the complete opposite.
Mexés was close to securing the draw with a header and Boateng, playing for almost half an hour, put the pressure on Caballero with long shots, but it fell to Pato to clinch the 1-1, the definitive score. A cross from Constant, 15 minutes from the final whistle, was headed in by the Brazilian from a tight angle.
