The Frenchman hits the headlines after the 2-1 defeat of Bologna: "I have to improve, and I need experience. A nose for goal? At United I tried to get into scoring positions, I like it and so I try when I can"
"Pogba? There's a pecking order at Juventus so it's fair that he
should start below Marchisio and Vidal, though I think he's playing better than
the Chilean at the moment. It's true he's only 19, but his strength and
technique are impressive. Any player coming from Manchester United has to be a
good one. Juventus did well to buy him. I think he should be playing more." This
was Marco Materazzi's verdict in Gazza Offside the morning after Juventus'
victory over Bologna. In the run-up to the big match against Inter, he's the man
in the spotlight: the muscular Frenchman who saved the night for the Bianconeri.
"INTER WANTED ME" — After scoring the
winner against Bologna, this is what Pogba had to say. "AC Milan and Inter both
made approaches in the summer but I only wanted Juventus, so I'm happy now. I
haven't spoken to Conte, but he always spurs me on and he's right to do so. I've
got to improve because the season's only just started, I need to play more games
and get some experience. A nose for goal? At United I tried to get into scoring
positions, I like it and so I try to do so whenever I can. I don't know if I'll
play against Inter and I'd rather not talk about that, now we've got to
celebrate the win against Bologna."
"too fancy" — So the young Frenchman
is enjoying the plaudits, but he's also had a telling-off, courtesy of Alessio,
the man in the dugout. "Pogba was very good, he played a great game against
Bologna, but there's one criticism I have to make. He's got to keep it simple –
after playing brilliantly for the first twenty minutes he turned on the fancy
stuff and we don't want that. Knowing Conte, I reckon that if Paul doesn't drop
the showboating he won't get far." Touché...
