"I told Mou: 'Damn you, you're leaving me with Benítez"

In a colourful interview with 'Sport Mediaset', Marco Materazzi discussed his time at Inter, his relationship with Mourinho and his famous headbutt incident with Zidane.
"Mourinho was number one. His secret was to make everyone feel like they were part of the project. In Madrid, when he told me he was leaving, I said: 'Damn you, you're leaving me with Benítez'. I knew that if he left, we'd never be the same".
The former Italy defender had harsh words for the Portuguese's successor, Spanish coach Rafa Benítez. "Things didn't go well with Benítez. I had front page newspaper clippings from all the most important moments of my career on my locker: Inter under Mou and Italy with Lippi. Benítez removed them. He thought he knew it all, but when someone acts like that, it's because they're afraid of their own shadow", Materazzi blasted.
When asked to name the best players he had played with or come up against, Materazzi sprang a surprise with the inclusion of Zinedine Zidane: "Julio César, Maicon, Cannavaro, myself and Chivu at the back. Gattuso, Stankovic and De Rossi in midfield. And Cassano and Zidane behind Eto'o in attack", he stated.
"Why Zidane? Because he has a place in my heart. He made me a World Cup winner. I've forgotten all about the headbutt. I just remember lifting the trophy. However, I'd like to have played with him. He's one of the five best ever", Materazzi revealed.
