Gonzalo Higuaín is facing three to four weeks on the sidelines. The tests undergone by 'El Pipita' have confirmed the worst, and the Argentine looks like he will be laid up for close to a month. In other words, he will sit out at least eight matches.
The Argentine has torn a muscle in his right hamstring. The Madrid striker picked up the injury 15 minutes into the fixture with Dortmund midweek, after a sprint in which he ended up colliding with the goalkeeper.
Though Higuaín was aware of the severity of the blow, he had hoped that it might turn out to be a false alarm. However, the scans he underwent soon put such hopes to bed. He certainly won't be back into action for at least three weeks, as a 21-day lay-off is the norm for such injuries, although the Argentine will be required to make haste with his recovery if he wishes to be back so soon.
José Mourinho was left tearing his hair out when told the news that Higuaín would be unavailable for the next month. In Mou's view, the injury couldn't have come at a worse time.
The Portuguese supremo knows that his side can't afford to drop any more points in the league, and four testing encounters, against Levante, Athletic, Betis and Atlético, beckon.
What's more, qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League has yet to be tied up, with a trip to Manchester to face City and a home tie with surprise package Ajax still to come. If that weren't enough, Benzema is far from in tip-top shape.
The club is hoping Higuaín will be fit again for the derby against Atlético, which is scheduled for 1st December.
