Ronaldo, a Real life-saver

After Real Madrid's cup defeat at the Balaídos stadium, José Mourinho publicly criticised some of his players for not giving their all and showing a lack of commitment, by saying: "One or two players didn't seem up to playing a cup game in the rain and cold".
The Portuguese coach singled out Raphael Varane as an example of a model professional and Cristiano Ronaldo as someone who always delivers.
Mourinho is certain to highlight Ronaldo's professional attitude in the manager's next team-talk prior to Real Madrid's next match against Espanyol. The striker is an example of a role model of a player who has not lost his appetite to win, no matter what type of game he plays in, what team he plays against or the weather conditions on the day.
The Real star gave his all in Vigo. His goal, which keeps 'Los Blancos' in with a chance of progressing to the next round, was the reward for the effort he put in in both attack and defence. The downpour, the cold, the dug up pitch and the fact that his teammates could not cobble together much going forward did not seem to affect the Portuguese forward.
Ronaldo's influence on the pitch for Real in Vigo was clear for all to see. He shot five times –all of which were on target– from a total of 11 efforts by his team. If it had not been for Celta keeper, Sergio Álvarez, the Portuguese could well have gone home with more goals to his name.
