Nadal: "I considered surgery"

Rafael Nadal provides an update on his current situation from Manacor, Majorca. Off the courts since June, the Spanish tennis ace is enthusiastically looking forward to his return to the circuit even though he is aware that the first few tournaments will be tough until he gets back into the competitive groove.

Rafa spoke on Spanish ABC Radio's 'Ultima Hora' about his time recuperating, his current form and how he sees the immediate future.
Nadal has not a played a game on the international tennis circuit since being knocked out of the second round of Wimbledon by Lukas Rosol at the end of June. A knee injury prevented him from competing in the second half of the year; a problem which he is still now working to recover from.
"Progress over the last few weeks has been good and the doctors are happy. You have to look at my career over a five year period", the tennis player pointed out, confessing that going under the knife again had crossed his mind: "I considered surgery but the doctors have always opted not to take risks with the treatment".
On his return date –Rafa is signed up for a tennis tournament in Abu Dhabi at the end of the year– the Majorcan explains that "I would like to come back in January. I'm not expecting to go there and win the Australian open. You have to be realistic. I'm not worried about results in those first tournaments. I want to get up to 100% by Monte Carlo and then on to Roland Garros."
