Barça shakes as Messi breaks

It was the 85th minute when Messi found himself in front of Artur, the Benfica keeper. The Argentine cut right, then cut back, killed the ball and tried to beat the keeper on high. Suddenly, Messi fell to the ground writhing in pain and clutching his left knee. At that moment, newspaper presses around the world stopped dead. The injury looks as though it could be very serious, but later the Barça doctors calm journalists and supporters down. Leo's knee is bruised pending further tests. Finally, the injury was diagnosed as bruising.
Lying on the pitch, Messi was clearly in pain. After being treated by the club’s medical staff, he was stretchered off. The footballing world will be on tenterhooks whilst the Argentine star undergoes a medical examination.
Against expectations, Tito Vilanova finally decided to rest Leo Messi for tonight’s game. The Barça coach had grown tired of the continuous media coverage surrounding the possibility of Messi beating Gerd Müller goalscoring record. However, Tito decided to bring on Messi in the 58th minute, a decision he’s now surely regretting.
What happened on the pitch was of little importance in what was an inconsequential game for Barça, but Benfica’s only chance of staying in the tournament and their mistakes cost them the game. The Portuguese created no end of chances during the first half which they wasted one after another. News of Celtic’s win came through and the Scots had the last laugh.
