Yet another week without Higuaín. Mourinho will need to face up to the game against Valladolid without being able to rotate his two starting strikers. The Argentine's return has been delayed and this'll be the eighth game that he'll miss since being injured.
The problem for Mourinho is that there is that a date is yet to be set for when 'El Pipita' will return. After his injury against Borussia Dortmund, on 6th November, a spell of three to four weeks was estimated for his recovery from a torn femoral biceps in his right leg.
One month later, the player still isn't out training on the Valdebebas playing fields yet. There is no news about him and he's still locked away in the gym.
Interestingly, a couple of weeks ago Higuaín was seen on the fields at Valdebebas for some light circuit training. It looked like he was trying to gain some time so he could be back for the derby. However, after a couple of laps around the pitch he called it a day and hasn't been seen out there since.
The striker is desperate to get back into action, but he has to be careful not to overdo it. If he needs an extra couple of weeks, he'll get them. There are important games coming up at the start of the year and Mou needs Higuaín to be back for an intense and decisive month of January.
After Valladolid there are only two weeks of competition left before the Christmas break, and three games – Celta (Cup), Espanyol and Málaga. In this situation it doesn’t make any sense to try and rush him back to fitness, and he won't be.
