Özil has the last laugh

Real Madrid's very own 'Wizard of Oz', Mesut Özil, conjured up two moments of magic to clinch a hard-fought win over Real Valladolid. After Manucho twice put the home side in front, two wonderful goals from the German playmaker – including a stunning free-kick to make it 3-2 – sealed a comeback win that should lift morale in the capital.
Mourinho's men, who included youth player Nacho at full-back, came flying out of the blocks in what was an intense opening period at the Nuevo Zorrilla, a stadium at which only Betis had come away with three points before tonight. However, roared on by a passionate home crowd, Valladolid showed no signs of balking at the challenge.
Manucho opened the scoring just seven minutes in, pouncing on a loose ball in the 6-yard box. Benzema wasted little time levelling matters a few minutes later, converting a Callejón cross after Valiente slipped.
Valladolid moved back in front when Manucho was again on hand to power home a free header from a corner swung in from the left. Madrid bagged a crucial equaliser just before the break, Özil exchanging a delightful one-two with Benzema and clipping home to make it 2-2. After the interval, 'Los Blancos' upped the ante and increasingly dictated matters, leaving Özil to grab the headlines with his set-piece winner.
