Messi: "I feared the worst when I was on the stretcher"

Lionel Messi sent out a message this Thursday, calming the Barcelona fans during a Turkish Airlines publicity event, shortly after being stretchered off in the game against Benfica. "I'm fine. Luckily it was just a knock", he assured.
However, the Argentinean revealed that he feared the worst to begin with: "I feared the worst when I was on the stretcher, with the pain I was in; I thought I would be out for a long time".
"I finished the move with a shot because I thought it was going to be the last ball I touched for a long time", he added.
Messi, who worked in the gym this morning and will not return to training until Saturday, did not rule out playing at the Villamarín on Sunday: "I don't know if I'll be back on Sunday. It depends on how I progress".
However, he does not believe that his absence will significantly affect Barça's league campaign: "The team will carry on the same, with or without me. There are plenty of players".
He also did not regret having played against Benfica: "I still think it could have happened in a training session or any game. There's a risk of injury every time you step onto the pitch".
Finally, Messi added his voice to the dispute over the Catalan language: "Since I arrived here, I've studied and grown up with Catalan and I haven't had a problem. You have to join in here, not look for problems".
